We teach a blended martial arts system incorporating Tae-kwon-do, Kenpo, and Jiu-Jitsu. The result is a well rounded system that focuses on three areas.
At American Freestyle Martial Arts, students progress through our system by demonstrating that they have achieved a suitable level of proficiency with the techniques presented at each belt level.
The amount of time required to promote to the next belt rank varies from one student to the next. We do not set any expectations based on the number of classes you have attended.
It is important to point out that each student's progress is compared to his or her own potential and not other students. Simply put, each student progresses through our system at his or her own pace.
After a student is awarded a promotion, one of the instructors will take a few minutes to review that student's progress with them. During that review the student gets to discuss with the instructor the areas where they are doing well and the areas where they need to work harder on.
The instructor will also set some goals for the student to work on before their next promotion.
It is never realistic to hold children to the same physical expectations as teenagers and adults. In fact it could be considered very bad judgment to expose a child to areas of training that could cause personal injury. At American Freestyle Martial Arts we have developed a system that allows young children to train along side their parents and older siblings without being exposed to techniques that require a higher level ofmaturity and physical development than they posses. Our system places students into three age groups:
Adults (14+)
Little Ninja's (7-14)
Tyke-Kwon-Do (3-7)
While very similar to our adult program, the kids programs does not contain any of our grappling or weapons training.
Safety is very important to us! We take great care to avoid accidents and injury in our classes. However, it is important to point out that the martial arts are a CONTACT sport. It is impossible for us to guarantee that accidents or injury will never happen in our classes.
You can view the testing requirements for each rank by clicking on the different belt colors on the left of the screen.
This is the progress each student goes through. You can click on the various boxes to view a detailed discription of what is taught to earn each belt.
Katas are an extension of training and part of the requirements for earning a belt. Each of the belt ranking curriculum will tell you the Katas required.
We are in the process of moving!
